Lament of a Service Mananger

I work for JCI /York UPG

I’m a Service Manager and a clerk!

Sometimes I’m called a genius.

Sometimes I’m called a jerk!

I claim I was once a Technician

So when a Job goes “sick”,

Everyone comes and asks me

What makes the darn thing tick?

I’m an “engineer” and a “controls specialist”

And whatever, OH! My derriere!

I’m suppose to know not only York,

But Guardian, Coleman, and Luxaire!

I’m suppose to know the Source 1 numbers

Of compressors, fans, and gears

For every unit that we ever made

For the past 50 years!

Still, life would be a pleasure

And I’d grin from ear to ear,

If everyone would just tell me

What the operating data really is!

And my job would be a much easier

If only I could hear,

everyone just giving me

The MAKE, MODEL, and YEAR!

And if techs came to training

And listened in the class,

They’d know how to diagnose

And solve problems really fast!

Yet despite all that is asked of me

I’d never give up this task

Of assisting dealers and homeowners

Is all a Service Manager can ask?

About yorkcentraltechtalk

I have been in the HVAC industry most of my life. I worked 25 years for contractors on anything from residential to large commercial boilers and power burners. For the past 23+ years I had been employed by York International UPG Division ( a division of Johnson Controls) as a Technical support/Service Manager but I am now retired. One of my goals has always been to "educate" dealers and contractors. The reason for starting this blog was to share some knowledge, thoughts, ideas, etc with anyone who takes the time to read it. The contents of this blog are my own opinions, thoughts, experiences and should not be construed as those of Johnson Controls York UPG in any way. I hope you find this a help. I always welcome comments and suggestions for postings and will do my best to address any thoughts, questions, or topics you may want to hear about. Thanks for taking the time to read my postings!
